Voyageurs now 7-9 on the season

NOTEBOOK, Monday, April 18: 

After sweeping a doubleheader from Vermilion on Thursday, the Rainy River Community College softball team split a doubleheader with the Ironwomen on Friday. 

Game 1 saw the Voyageurs win by a final of 9-6. After falling behind 3-0 after 1 inning, Rainy scored twice in the 2nd, 3 times in the 3rd, and 4 times in the 4th to take control of the game. 

Sofia Bills stayed hot at the plate as she went 2-5 with 3 RBI. Valerie Sandoval and Jordan Cobbe also had a pair of hits. In Game 2, Rainy scored 9 runs once again but Vermilion scored 10 times including twice in the bottom of the sixth to rally to win 10-9. Presley Frost went 3-4 at the plate, knocked in 3 runs and scored twice.  Kayla Townsend and Sofia Bills added 2 hits in the game.  

On Saturday, Rainy River faced Northland in a doubleheader. Game 1 saw the Voyageurs bang out 17 hits on their way to an 11-9 victory. Townsend and Arcadya Conway each had 3 hits while Bills, Frost, Sandoval, and Cobbe each had a pair of hits. Game 2 was shortened to 5 innings due to time constraints with Northland winning 4-2.  Bills had 2 hits and Townsend had a 2-run home run for the Voyageurs who are now 7-9 on the season. 

Rainy River is scheduled to play Mesabi Range on Wednesday.
